When you pass through the doorway you enter the world of Global Student you are entering a research project that is a part of a Research project run by The Victorian Education Channel (DE&T Victoria) and The School Library Association of Victoria. Global Student is the student space connected to Global Teacher. In order to get blogging spaces for your students it is important to register with Globalteacher. To do this could you please send an email to global.teacher@edumail.vic.gov.au In that email we ask if you could simply provide a vision for your use of the space to help with our research.
Whilst Globalstudent is a space for studentblogs it is important to follow a couple of “Rules†to ensure student safety.
- Only teachers can create blogs. You can create them for students but the teacher MUST be the owner of the blog. This allows moderation of comments and content.
- Teachers are responsible for their students online. They must ensure they are supervised in the same way they would be on an excursion. We ask teachers and students to keep the space “Safe and appropriate for others to viewâ€
- Should something go wrong or you see content you think needs to be removed let us know straight away. contact us at global.teacher@edumail.vic.gov.au

YABBA
YABBA - stands for Young Australians’ Best Book Award. YABBA is a not-for-profit organisation formed in 1985 run by a volunteer committee to: encourage and promote children’s reading of Australian children’s fiction and to develop children into discerning readers, who will express their opinions about books, including voting for their favourites.
The YABBA awards are a children’s choice book award in 4 sections, presented annually.
The sections are:
Picture Story Books
Fiction for Younger Readers
Fiction for Older Readers
Fiction for Years 7-9
Each year:
Children nominate Australian children’s fiction books that have been published in the last ten years to create a short list.
Children vote for their favourite books by a specified date in October,(usually International Children’s Day). The winners are announced at the award ceremony where authors and illustrators receive YABBA citations presented by children.
Currently YABBA is seeking title nominations for the YABBA 2008 shortlist from students across Victoria.
Take the time to download full details of the YABBA program here 08-nominations-2008.pdf
and encourage students to participate by either commenting directly on this blog or by emailing yabbabooks@yahoo.com
